Sending recycling waste to China is increasingly common, due to lack of capacity in the UK, and due to the high quality of Chinese facilities. In 2009, an estimated 900,000 tonnes of plastics was collected for recycling in the UK. Of this,„ over 700,000 tones were exported for recycling in 2009, predominantly to China.

Changing regulations in China now mean that the number of licensed plants for handling plastic waste has declined significantly. It is therefore increasingly important to know which plants are able and licensed to recycle plastic, if you are planning to export such waste to China.
